Articulating the space “in between”

As a collective group of participants (artists, designers, practitioners, poets, performers, scholars, thinkers...) we aim to break down barriers that have historically existed within formal domains of theory, research, scholarship, and creative practice. Aiming to move outside hierarchical structures in our approach to this project, we seek to avoid the stereotypes of language, terminology that can narrowly define and constrain research. Our goal is to articulate a “space in between” in order to birth new hybridity, new language and new terminology that offer a more inclusive space to foster collaboration and interdisciplinary across our research as a collective.

The UN:RESOLVED virtual platform launched in November 2021 comprised of a network of project domes of work-in-progress with the goal of gathering feedback from visitors to inform future research trajectories. The VR environment, designed by Maya Georgieva and the team at the XReality center at Parsons School of Design, highlights the benefits of VR in providing an evergreen space where work can be updated and the exchange of ideas can continue in perpetuity.

In May 2022 UN:RESOLVED 2.0, a three day Pop-Up exhibition in New York focused on bodily knowledge as a research methodology. Challenging conventional presentation formats by showing work-in-progress, the exhibit sought to disrupt the hierarchy between ‘audience’ and ‘researcher’. Attendees were invited to participate in interactive workshops, engage with work following pre-recorded directions or contribute written feedback to projects on a series of vinyl overlays.
